Everton ahead of West Ham in race to sign €50m Juventus flop player
Everton have emerged as the front-runners to sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus, as the Brazilian midfielder looks set for a potential return to the Premier League this summer.
Juventus are open to selling the 27-year-old, who has struggled to make an impact in Serie A since joining from Aston Villa for €50 million last summer.
Despite competition from West Ham United, reports suggest that Luiz favors a move to Everton.
Luiz arrived in Turin with high expectations after an impressive spell at Aston Villa, where he was widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s most consistent midfielders. However, his time at Juventus has been underwhelming.
In 27 appearances, Luiz has failed to reach even 1,000 minutes of playing time, and his influence has waned significantly under the Bianconeri’s setup.
With Juventus aiming to recoup a significant portion of their original investment, they are prepared to offload the Brazilian this summer.
The Toffees are in the market for a defensive midfielder following the departure of Abdoulaye Doucouré and with veteran Idrissa Gana Gueye nearing the end of his career.
Luiz fits the profile of a player who can anchor the midfield while providing creativity and physical presence.
The report highlights Everton as the favourites in the race, with the player himself showing a preference for a move to Merseyside.
West Ham United have also shown interest in Luiz as they seek to reinforce their midfield after underwhelming performances from Guido Rodríguez and Carlos Soler.
The futures of Edson Álvarez, Tomas Soucek, and James Ward-Prowse also remain uncertain.
However, with Luiz leaning toward Everton, the Hammers may have to turn their attention elsewhere.
With Juventus looking to finalize an exit for Douglas Luiz and Everton actively pushing to land their man, a deal could be reached in the coming weeks.
The 27-year-old could be set for a fresh start in England after a frustrating chapter in Italy.
