Manchester City were strongly linked with a move for Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso during the January transfer window. However, the Premier League champions ultimately opted to sign Nico Gonzalez from Porto, which complicated any potential deal for the Italian full-back.
Cambiaso played a key role in Juventus’ 2-0 victory over Hellas Verona in Serie A, putting in a solid performance that showcased his versatility.
Following the match, the defender was questioned about the transfer speculation surrounding him in the winter window, particularly the reported interest from Manchester City.
Speaking to reporters, as cited by Calciomercato.it, the Italy international opened up about his fitness struggles and the transfer rumors. “I feel much better now.
Since December 7th, my ankle has been troubling me, and I underestimated the issue. But physically, I am fine now. January was a bit unfortunate for me while I was recovering, there were many transfer rumors,” he said.
Despite the speculation, Cambiaso made it clear that his focus remained on Juventus, dismissing any suggestions that his mind was elsewhere.
“From the outside, it might have seemed like my focus was divided, but my only concern was my ankle, not any other situations,” he clarified.
Reports suggest that Manchester City might reignite their interest in the 24-year-old defender during the summer transfer window.
With Pep Guardiola reportedly keen on bringing him to the Etihad, the English club could make another attempt if Cambiaso maintains his fitness for the remainder of the season.
So far this season, Cambiaso has made 33 appearances across all competitions, finding the net twice. His ability to adapt across different positions, including inverting into midfield while operating as a full back, has made him an attractive prospect for Guardiola’s tactical setup.
Given his versatility and technical ability, it’s no surprise that the Manchester City boss remains interested in adding him to the squad.
