Nicolo Fagioli to Fiorentina and the ripple effects

According to multiple reports, Juventus and Fiorentina and working closely to make a deal were, Fagioli joins Fiorentina on a loan to buy. Juventus see Fagioli as expendable because of the current depth in midfield.

Juventus bought in Teun Koopmeiners, Douglas Luiz and Khepren Thuram. These additions to the midfield mean that Fagioli has now only seen 565 minutes in Serie A matches. As well Fabio Miretti is set to come back from Genoa before next season to add more players to the midfield mix.

For these reasons, Juventus believe they can afford to let Fagioli go. There were reports that RB Leipzig would make an offer for Fagioli, but now it looks like Fiorentina are the only possible destination. Fiorentina are in need for another midfielder after recent addition Eduardo Bove suffered a Cardiac Arrest in the 22nd minute of the clash against Inter Milan.

He has thankfully recovered fully, but Serie A rules mean that he can’t play for Fiorentina anymore. The same thing challenged Christian Eriksen who played for Inter Milan when he collapsed during Euro 2020 and was then joined Brentford on a free transfer.

Now the two clubs have worked towards a deal for Fagioli to solve each other’s problems. The deal will be a loan with an obligation to buy. The figure is still currently uncertain as the clubs look to complete the deal before the transfer deadline, but Juventus would like a fee around 20 million euros.

Fagioli and Fiorentina also have to agree personal terms if he does join them permanently. This could also slow the deal down. This is terrible for Juventus because, they need to take the money from this deal and use it elsewhere.

They need it to bring in Kevin Danso from RC Lens in a deal that looked to be completed. Initially it was set to be a dry loan, and Danso gave his yes to Juventus, but the wheels fell of the deal when Lens backflipped.

Now Lens want Juventus to buy Danso on a permeant deal which is why they are waiting for the sale of Fagioli. Once Fagioli is sold they will be able to go into business with RC Lens with the new funds, and extra space in FFP. Because Fagioli is an academy player any sale would be considered pure profit under FFP regulations.
