Juventus have reportedly taken a major step forward in their midfield overhaul, reaching an agreement in principle with Morten Hjulmand, the captain of Sporting CP.

The Bianconeri have agreed personal terms with the Danish international, who has become the club’s top target to replace Douglas Luiz, whose exit from Turin now appears imminent.

Hjulmand is said to have agreed to a five-year deal worth €3.2 million net per season, paving the way for a potential move to Continassa  but the deal hinges on negotiations with Sporting.

Sporting CP had previously insisted they would not sell their skipper for less than his €80 million release clause, but recent reports suggest the Portuguese club is now open to negotiating a lower price.

Juventus are hopeful of sealing the deal for around €40 million  a figure they are more comfortable with.

Juventus are reshaping their midfield under new leadership. With Luiz pushing for a move and Weston McKennie’s future uncertain, Khephren Thuram and Manuel Locatelli could be left with little cover.

Hjulmand, who impressed during his time with Lecce in Serie A, has emerged as a natural fit. His physical presence, tactical intelligence, and familiarity with Italian football make him an ideal choice for new director Damien Comolli.

Despite agreeing with the player, Juventus must first finalize Douglas Luiz’s departure before committing funds to complete the Hjulmand transfer. Until that domino falls, the deal remains on hold.

Hjulmand’s potential arrival could mark a turning point in Juventus’ summer plans.

With the player ready to join and Sporting softening their stance, all eyes are now on how quickly Juventus can offload Luiz and move to close the deal.

The Bianconeri’s midfield revamp is gaining momentum  but the next few weeks will be decisive.
