Juventus have once again failed to take second place in Serie A. A win against Bologna was needed to overtake Lazio, but the Bianconeri weren’t able to get more than a point: 1-1.

Juventus couldn’t have started the game much worse. Captain Danilo fouled Riccardo Orsolini after nine minutes and the VAR deemed it a penalty. Orsolini stepped up to take it himself and didn’t fail from the spot. The Bianconeri complained that Orsolini made a foul in the build-up to the goal, but the officials did not want to hear it.

Milik misses

Juventus went looking for the equalizer. Federico Chiesa gave the ball to Nicolò Fagioli, and the Italian midfielder got denied twice by Łukasz Skorupski. Especially his save on the rebound was a wonder save. Shortly after, Juventus were awarded a penalty too by VAR after a foul on Arek Milik. The referee gave a free-kick first, but VAR decided it was a penalty instead. Milik took it, made a weird jump and delivered a shot that was way too weak to beat Skorupski. His fellow Polishman saves the penalty with ease.

Just before half-time, Bolgona came close to a second. Musa Barrow troubled the Bianconeri defense twice, but Wojciech Szczęsny saved Juventus on both occasions.

Redemption

Milik managed to get some redemption for that missed penalty in the second half. Substitute Samuel Iling-Junior made a good dribble in the box and gave the ball to Chiesa. That didn’t quite work, the ball fell to Milik, and the Pole volleyed it in the right bottom corner.

Juventus did far from enough to get a win. Instead, Bologna seemed to be on the front food to get another goal. Federico Gatti looked clumsy as Michel Aebischer took the ball off of him in the Juventus box, but Szczęsny came out quick enough to make the Bologna attacker miss. Not much later, Matias Soulé got a big opportunitity to put Juventus ahead after the ball fell to him from a Skorupski clearence, but the Argentinian’ shot went wide.

Juventus loanee Andrea Cambiaso troubled Szczęsny one last time before the final whistle, but the Polish goalkeeper had a really good game and saved again. The game ended 1-1 and meant Juventus’ fifth consecutive game without a win.

Szczęsny (7.5); Cuadrado (6), Danilo (5), Gatti (6), Alex Sandro (5.5); Locatelli (6), Rabiot (5), Fagioli (5.5); Chiesa (6), Milik (6), Kostić (5).

Substitutes: Iling-Junior (6.5), Soulé (5.5), Miretti (6), Vlahović (-), Paredes (-).
