Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz returned to Continassa on Monday morning, July 28, after unexpectedly skipping the club’s first day of pre-season training on July 24.

His delayed return has not only raised questions about his future in Turin but also resulted in a hefty fine.

The Brazilian’s absence was unjustified, and the club is reportedly set to fine him between €38,000 and €40,000.

More critically, his decision to skip training has cemented the growing divide between him and the club, which no longer sees him as a part of its long-term project.

Following a disappointing debut season, in which the 26-year-old played just 877 minutes, Juventus are now actively seeking a new club for Luiz.

His struggles have been attributed to adaptation issues, tactical misalignment, and frequent injuries, which hindered his integration into the squad.

Luiz joined Juventus just one year ago from Aston Villa, and the club’s main objective is to avoid a financial loss. Juventus must recoup at least €39 million from his sale to prevent a capital loss.

Interest in Luiz has been building abroad, particularly from the Premier League, where he enjoyed his best footballing years. West Ham, Everton, and Nottingham Forest have all made inquiries in recent days.

However, one of the most concrete moves is reportedly coming from Fenerbahce, managed by José Mourinho. The Turkish club’s sporting director is expected in Turin soon to present an official bid.

Juventus, however, are not open to loan deals unless there’s an obligation to buy included. The club is aiming for a permanent transfer as early as possible, with talks expected to intensify in the coming hours.

Douglas Luiz may have returned to Continassa, but it appears to be just a brief stopover before a permanent departure is finalized. His time at Juventus, marked by setbacks and disappointment, seems to be nearing an end.
