As Borussia Dortmund prepares to face Juventus in a friendly match in Germany, former Bianconeri midfielder Emre Can has shared heartfelt reflections on his time in Turin, the changes the club has undergone, and the strong emotional bond he still feels with the Italian giants.

Although Can will not take part in Sunday’s match due to injury, he expressed his excitement about reconnecting with old friends.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be playing, but I’ll be at the stadium to say hello to many friends. I’ll never forget Juventus, especially my first day at Continassa with Cristiano Ronaldo,” said the 31-year-old, who made 45 appearances for Juventus and 48 for the German national team.

“It was a dream to play with Ronaldo. He’s one of the greatest in history — a true winner, hardworking, humble, and very approachable.”

Since leaving Juventus in 2020, the club has seen a major transformation.

“Very little remains of the team I played with. Back then there were legends like Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli, Khedira, and of course, Ronaldo. Now, only Perin, Pinsoglio, and Rugani are left,” he remarked.

“Chiellini’s new role as a director is impressive. He knows the club inside and out, and I believe with him, Juventus can return to winning ways.”

Speaking about the upcoming match at Signal Iduna Park, Can emphasized the special atmosphere Dortmund fans create: “There are no friendlies at home. Whether it’s summer, Bundesliga, or Champions League — our Yellow Wall always gives you goosebumps.”

Reflecting on his short stay in Turin, Can holds no bitterness. “Football is like that. Allegri really wanted me, then Sarri arrived with different ideas,” he said.

“No regrets though — it was a fantastic experience. I won the Scudetto and was part of the epic comeback against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. That night was unforgettable.”

Asked about a potential return to Juventus, he didn’t close the door. “Never say never in football. I was very happy there, but right now I’m focused on Borussia,” he said.

“I’m the captain and I want to help my teammates. Next year there’s the World Cup in the USA, and I want to earn my place with Germany.”

Can also praised several players, recommending Karim Adeyemi and Jadon Sancho to Juventus, and highlighted his admiration for Kenan Yildiz.

“Kenan has something special. The number 10 shirt is not given lightly at Juve. He reminds me of Dybala — different style, but similar importance. I also really like Khephren Thuram; he’s the kind of physical and dynamic midfielder I love,” he said.

Looking ahead to the Serie A season, Can tipped AC Milan under Allegri as a serious contender but made it clear where his heart lies: “I’ll be supporting Juventus. I hope this will be the year the Scudetto returns to Turin.”
