In a move that underscores the ambition of their new ownership, Everton submitted a “big” transfer offer for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, but the Serbian international has rejected the approach.

According to journalist Sebastein Vidal, the forward is set to see out the remainder of his contract with the Italian club, effectively rebuffing Everton’s advances.

The news comes as Everton, under the new stewardship of The Friedkin Group, continues to be active in the summer transfer window.

The club has already made several notable signings, including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Thierno Barry, Adam Aznou, and Mark Travers.

They also made Carlos Alcaraz’s loan move permanent and secured a high-profile loan deal for England international Jack Grealish from Manchester City.

Despite this flurry of activity, the pursuit of Vlahovic highlights the new ownership’s “huge ambition,” as noted by Vidal. However, securing the 25-year-old’s signature was always going to be a difficult task.

Vlahovic is reportedly one of the highest earners in Serie A, with a contract at Juventus worth a substantial £372,000 per week.

This wage, coupled with his apparent desire to stay in Italy, has made him a complex target for any club.

Juventus has been trying to offload Vlahovic to reduce their wage bill and avoid losing him for free when his contract expires next summer.

However, the lack of serious offers and the player’s refusal to leave have made the situation a major headache for the club.

With Juventus also pushing to re-sign Randal Kolo Muani and having already brought in Jonathan David, Vlahovic’s playing time could be limited if he remains in Turin.

For Everton, while a striker of Vlahovic’s caliber would have been a significant coup, manager David Moyes already has several options in the position, including Beto, Barry, and Youssef Chermiti.

The team’s more pressing need is arguably for a new right-sided attacker, following the departures of Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison.

As the Toffees prepare to kick off their Premier League campaign against Leeds United on Monday, the focus will now shift from high-profile transfer targets to the squad at hand.
