Fiorentina-Juve: Venuti’s late own goal brings Bianconeri closer to Coppa Italia final

In this season’s Coppa Italia, only four teams are remaining: Juventus, Fiorentina and both AC and Inter Milan. After yesterday’s goalless draw of Milan’s squads, Calcio fans around the globe were undoubtedly expecting the other first-leg semi-final game today between the Viola and the Old Lady to be different dramatically as well as in the style of play.

Nevertheless, the first half at the Stadio Artemio Franchi showed us something far from what we all had hoped for. Fiorentina dominated on and off the ball, with Juventus being able to produce just one single shot, a blocked one, not even on goal. Shameless. It certainly was one of the ugliest first 45 minutes’ performances that I have ever seen from the Bianconeri.

Relevant statistics from the first half of Fiorentina-Juve:

Ball possession: 58/42%

Shots taken: 10/1

Shots on target: 3/0

Fouls: 7/7

Unfortunately for Juventus, it did not go any better in the last 45 minutes of the game either. Ultimately, in the 91st minute of the match, Lorenzo Venuti showed mercy to a helpless black and white side from Turin to unintentionally keep them in the Coppa Italia race by finding his own net unluckily for the Italian international. In the end, we should probably forget this fixture soon or what is more, we should eventually start learning from it more and more. After all, one thing is already crystal clear, Milan awaits us in the Coppa’s finale if we manage to go past the Viola.
