Juventus vs Empoli Match Report: Entitled Juventus Embarrassed by Empoli

Juventus took on Empoli in the semi finals of the Coppa Italia, and played out an extremely poor performance. Mr Motta played the game poorly, and left the defence open and unsupported by 50 minutes.

This resulted Empoli getting a goal in the 24th minute through a long range effort from Youssef Maleh. Empoli could have scored another two goals with very good chances missed until the 50th minute when Manuel Locatelli was bought on.

Why didn’t he start is the question on the lips of all Juventus fans, especially when Teun Koopmeiners was played even though he has been extremely poor all season. This resulted in him being booed by the entire Allianz Arena as Thiago Motta is scared to not use because he spent 60 million euros on him.

Once Locatelli and Yildiz came on in the 50th minute and instantly, Juventus dictated the play better, Khepren Thuram could attack and use his dribbling ability. However, in the 44 minutes Juventus had to score they only managed one goal through Khepren Thuram. Even though Empoli have allowed 43 goals in 26 league games.

Player Ratings:

Mattia Perin – 5.5: The first goal was poor defending, most of the chances were in today’s game. He made a few big saves, should have done better in the shootout but had his highlights as well.

Andrea Cambiaso – 4.5: Cambiaso positioning in the first half was incredibly poor and negligent. This forced Llyod Kelly and Khepren Thuram out of position and he didn’t have an affect. If this is a choice from Thiago Motta this is not his fault, because at half time he went back to his normal position and then he was better.

Llyod Kelly – 5: Didn’t play in line with Gatti this allowed players on side and just a general unawareness in the defence. Also mean’t that Perin had to play route one balls all the time.

Federico Gatti- 5.5: Gatti was better than Llyod Kelly but it isn’t much to ride home about. Bailed himself out through Perin in a lot of his build up but won the ball well.

Timothy Weah – 5: Alberto Costa should have been started as he was clearly tired, especially with it being tired. First half he was slightly above average the second half he was below average.

Khepren Thuram – 6.5: Thuram had to drop in like a centre back, I’m unsure if this was a choice by Motta or mistake by Cambiaso. In the second half he scored and created chances because he tries to break the lines.

Teun Koopmeiners – 3: Once again he has zero impact on the game. He dosent want the ball, he shouldn’t be playing end of. We look miles better when he’s on the bench.

Weston Mckennie – 5.5: Weston Mckennie alwalys gives his all which is why he is starting for Motta’s side. He was poor in the first half because he couldn’t get supply in the second he was a lot better.

Randal Kolo Muani – 5: I don’t know why Mr Motta still starts him on the wing instead of in a strike partnership. It clearly dosen’t work with Kolo Muani on the wing.

Nico Gonzalez – 3.5: Another poor signing made by Mr Motta and the Napoli double agent Giuntoli. He hasn’t had a good game since the  Coppa Italia round of 16.

Dusan Vlahovic – 2: 8 Million a year 8 not 5 not 4 8. And he wants a pay rise to stay. He was incredibly poor, took the heaviest touch and cost him a one on one chance which would have been a goal. He then missed the first penalty of the shootout, setting up us poorly for the rest of the fixture.
