Juventus coach Igor Tudor’s post-match comments after the friendly against Borussia Dortmund have stirred debate about the future role of Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Speaking candidly, Tudor said: “Douglas Luiz is my player, we’ll see what happens. He was there, instead of Yildiz, looking at goal — he has goals in his blood. If I have to choose, in my system I see him more there [up front] than in front of the defense, because I think he can score.”

Tudor’s remarks came shortly after Luiz’s appearance in the last 30 minutes of the match in Germany and offered a glimpse of a potential new tactical use for the midfielder, who has so far been a peripheral figure for Juventus and embroiled in a lengthy transfer saga comparable only to that of Dusan Vlahovic.

The idea that Douglas Luiz might stay at Juventus and be deployed in a more advanced position than previously seen has prompted discussion.

However, despite the fresh perspective, it remains doubtful Luiz would find playing time there, given the presence of Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao — two key midfielders favored by Tudor, with Conceicao having been a direct target of the coach himself.

Market dynamics continue to dominate the uncertainty surrounding Luiz. Though Juventus consider his sale a priority to fund incoming transfers, no concrete bids have yet materialized, with Nottingham Forest the only club known to have made inquiries.

Without an interested buyer, Juventus face the challenge of retaining a player deemed outside the current project.
