Juventus vs Hellas Verona: Preview, lineups, prediction, tactics & team news

Juventus will look to put their recent Coppa Italia heartbreak behind them as they welcome Hellas Verona to the Allianz Stadium for a crucial Serie A clash.

With Champions League qualification at stake, the Bianconeri will be eager to maintain their strong league form, while Verona arrive desperate for points in their battle to avoid relegation.

Juventus Seeking Redemption

Thiago Motta’s men suffered a disappointing exit from the Coppa Italia in midweek, falling to Empoli in a dramatic penalty shootout. Despite Khephren Thuram’s late equalizer forcing extra time, Juventus failed to capitalize on their dominance, ultimately losing 5-3 on penalties. With their hopes of lifting silverware this season now over, they must shift full focus to securing a top-four finish.

Fortunately, Juventus have been in excellent form in Serie A, winning all four of their league fixtures in February. Their last league outing saw Dusan Vlahovic mark his return to the starting XI with an early goal in a 1-0 away victory over Cagliari.

However, questions remain over the squad’s mentality following their cup disappointment, as well as speculation surrounding Motta’s long-term future at the club.

On paper, Juventus have a clear historical advantage against Verona, having never lost a home match to them in Serie A. The Bianconeri have won 28 of their 33 previous meetings in Turin, and they will look to extend that dominant record.

Verona’s Survival Fight

Hellas Verona, on the other hand, will draw confidence from their dramatic 1-0 victory over Fiorentina last time out, secured by a stoppage-time winner from Antoine Bernede.

The result was a rare bright spot in an otherwise difficult campaign, with Verona netting just two goals in their last seven matches.

Despite their attacking struggles, Verona have shown resilience away from home, winning three of their last six road games—matching their total away wins from the previous 25 fixtures.

However, their poor record against Juventus, coupled with a lack of goal-scoring firepower, makes them clear underdogs in this encounter.

Team News & Expected Lineups

Juventus

Injuries continue to cause headaches for Thiago Motta, particularly in defense. Nicolo Savona and Renato Veiga have recently joined a growing list of absentees, which already includes Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal, both sidelined for the remainder of the season. Pierre Kalulu remains unavailable as well.

Motta is expected to pair Federico Gatti with Lloyd Kelly in central defense, while Timothy Weah and Andrea Cambiaso will operate as full-backs. In midfield, Douglas Luiz is set to miss out due to injury, leaving Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram to anchor the central area.

Up front, Randal Kolo Muani and Dusan Vlahovic are likely to compete for a starting spot, with the latter boasting a strong scoring record against Verona. Francisco Conceicao, Weston McKennie, and Kenan Yildiz are expected to provide attacking support behind the striker.

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Weah, Gatti, Kelly, Cambiaso; Thuram, Locatelli; Conceicao, McKennie, Yildiz; Kolo Muani

Hellas Verona

The visitors will be without several key players, including Suat Serdar, Abdou Harroui, and defender Martin Frese. The biggest blow is the absence of Casper Tengstedt, their top scorer, who is ruled out due to injury.

Domagoj Bradaric returns from suspension and is expected to start at left wing-back, while Bernede will likely feature in midfield following his match-winning goal against Fiorentina. Up front, Amin Sarr is set to lead the attack, supported by Tomas Suslov.

Probable Lineup (3-5-2): Montipo; Dawidowicz, Coppola, Valentini; Tchatchoua, Niasse, Bernede, Duda, Bradaric; Suslov, Sarr

Player to Watch: Randal Kolo Muani

Juventus will look to Randal Kolo Muani to lead the attack. The French forward has steadily grown into his role under Motta, using his speed and movement to trouble defenders. With Vlahovic likely to attract defensive attention, Kolo Muani could find space to exploit and play a crucial role in Juventus’ attacking play.

Match Prediction

Juventus 2-0 Hellas Verona

Juventus’ strong home record and superior quality should see them take control of this match. Verona’s recent win over Fiorentina may provide a confidence boost, but their attacking struggles remain a major concern. Expect Juventus to dominate possession and break down Verona’s defense with patient build-up play.

A first-half goal could settle any lingering nerves for the Bianconeri, with a second strike likely to seal the points after the break. Given Verona’s poor record in Turin, Juventus are well-positioned to extend their winning streak and tighten their grip on a top-four finish.
