Cristiano Giuntoli and Thiago Motta are now looking evaluating the next signings, if Motta is set to stay but currently that is up in the air. This is so they can be prepared to make the signings, and not have a repetition of January.
The unprepared ness of January lead to Giuntoli agreeing to spend 15 million on Llyod Kelly which is a large overpay. As well Renato Veiga was bought in on only a dry loan and unlike Kelly most fans have seen him as a great addition.
The future moves of Motta could be to reunite with one of his former midfielders. He tried to bring two ex Bologna in Ricardo Calafiori and Joshua Zirkzee, two talented youngsters who showed their class under Motta. However, both decided to make moves to Premier League sides Arsenal and Manchester United instead.
In the summer however, Giuntoli and Motta will make another swing to sign Lewis Ferguson who was also very good under Motta. This is if Mirko Di Natale if he is to be believed. Motta would have liked to make a move last summer, but it was not possible.
This is because halfway through last season he suffered an ACL injury which meant he would be out for a year. Both Motta and Giuntoli weren’t interested in investing the money on a player who won’t play until halfway into the season.
As well they couldn’t be sure if he would recover well, as it has happened before where players have suffered ACL tears and haven’t been the same player post recovery. Now that he has shown that he can be the same player if not better, Giuntoli and Motta are happy to spend the supposed 20-25 million to bring in Ferguson.
