Juventus aiming to keep a homegrown defender instead of looking elsewhere
Juventus is looking to bounce back from a disappointing club world cup campaign in which they where eliminated in the round of 16 by Real Madrid. Now Igor Tudor and Damien Comolli are looking to strengthen the team to help challenge for the Scudetto next season.
Before the start of last, Juventus lead by Cristiano Guntoli was looking to bring in a defender to strength the squad. However due to multiple reason mainly other needs for the squad and Feyenoord not wanting to sell David Hancko a defender was never bought in.
Then Juventus suffered an injury crisis down back with Glieson Bremer and Juan Cabal tearing their ACLs. This left the squad struggling to qualify for the Champions League. This amongst other reasons led to the firing of Crisitano Guntoli who was then replaced by Damien Comolli.
Commoli has also stated that Juventus are in need of a defender like Guntoli. However, last season target David Hancko has been sold to Spanish side, Atletico Madrid. This has left Juventus with no a lot of viable options other than Giovanni Leoni of Parma. However, there is no guarantee that Parma want to sell Leoni and with english side as well as AC and Inter Milan being intrested he is a hard get for Juventus.
So Commoli might have to take an alternative approach and look within the current squad. This would be in the form of Daniele Rugani who was not at Juventus last season. Rugani was sent on loan to Ajax last summer and it looked like he would be sold this summer.
However, according to Nico Schria via X it is likely that Daniele Rugani will be kept next season. This decision was also helped by Rugani strong performances in the club world cup for Juventus. Juventus also don’t think it is worth blowing a lot of money on a defender yet. This is due to clubs priorities lying in other area’s of the pitch (read more here)
