Nottingham Forest has stepped up its pursuit of Douglas Luiz, as the English club pushes forward in negotiations with Juventus to bring the Brazilian midfielder back to the Premier League.

Forest under the leadership of president Evangelos Marinakis has decided to intensify talks for Luiz, who is no longer a central figure in Juventus’ project.

The move is backed by Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who is eager to work with the 26-year-old.

Interest in Luiz from Forest dates back to March, following a failed approach during the January transfer window.

His agent, Kia Joorabchian, reportedly initiated contact with Forest’s sporting director Edu Gaspar who previously attempted to sign Luiz for Arsenal in a €40 million deal that never materialized.

Now, the timing might be right. Douglas Luiz has been placed on the transfer list by Juventus and is reportedly open to the move.

Juventus, however, is unwilling to lower its asking price. General director Damien Comolli made headlines recently by calling Luiz’s behavior “disrespectful,” after the player showed up late to pre-season training.

The Italian club is demanding €40 million for Luiz. On the other hand, Nottingham Forest is proposing a loan deal with a €32–33 million option to buy far below Juve’s expectations.

Juventus prefers a permanent sale or, at minimum, a loan with a mandatory purchase clause triggered under specific conditions.

Unlike in past transfer windows, Luiz is now open to the move. Sources indicate the Brazilian is intrigued by the prospect of working under Espirito Santo, which was not the case with other recent English offers.

Forest’s project appears more convincing, especially after the club finished in a Europa League position last season having spent much of the campaign in the Premier League’s top three.

To sweeten the deal, Nottingham Forest is reportedly ready to offer Luiz a five-year contract through 2030, worth €5 million net per season plus bonuses.

This figure exceeds his current wages at Juventus and could be key in finalizing the agreement.

Everton, Fulham, West Ham, and Leeds have also shown interest, though none appear as competitive as Forest either financially or in terms of sporting project. Everton, for instance, only offered a simple loan deal.

Negotiations between Juventus and Nottingham Forest are ongoing. While hurdles remain, including the transfer formula and fee structure, Douglas Luiz’s interest in the move and Forest’s determination may soon bring the deal across the finish line.
