João Mário recently joined Juventus on a rapid transfer and is embarking on his first experience abroad. Speaking to the press at the club’s summer retreat in Germany, he discussed his initial adaptation to life in Turin and his role at Juventus.

When asked about his integration into the squad, he said:

“Francisco Conceição and Tiago Djaló, being Portuguese, have been helping me a lot to understand the dynamics of this club. They’re giving me a great hand, but I’m also trying to learn from the other players. I hope to continue adapting as I have done so far.”

Portuguese Role Models

João—proud of his Portuguese roots—shared who he looks up to:

“Since I was young, I have always been inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo for his work ethic and ambition—his drive to always want more.”

On his playing style, he added:

“In my position I look up to João Cancelo. I quite identify with his playing style—he’s an offensively-minded full-back even though he’s a defender.”

First Steps in Turin

Focused, determined, and fully embracing the Juventus identity, João said:

“It’s a fantastic feeling. I am very happy to be here and couldn’t be more excited to start this journey.”

He also acknowledged the influence of former Porto teammate Francisco Conceição in his decision to join:
