Match Report

Juventus 0-2 Benfica: Another poorly managed game

Juventus took on Benfica with a chance to earn a top half seed and a home game in the second leg of the playoff. This chance lasted a whole 16 minutes until Benfica got there first goal from Pavlidis. Benfica broke through again in the 81st minute through Kokcu.

This was yet another poorly managed game by Thiago Motta, as the club had one way to build up. Pass to Francisco Conceicao and hope he can create something on the offence. If he loses the ball too bad no chance for us.

This defence had no actual structure another thing Thiago Motta can be blamed for. Benfica could have easily scored 6 plus goal in the first half alone because our players could get walked through. This isn’t to take away from how poor the players where because they were terrible as well.

Player Ratings

Mattia Perin – 7.5: Mattia Perin kept this game close today and stopped it from being a lot worse than this game was right now. It’s going to be a headache for Motta to choose between him or Di Gregorio.

Weston Mckennie – 5.5: He had some attacking flair on the pitch but lacked defensively, and didn’t link up well with the rest of his side. He is still a player that should start for Juventus consistently.

Manuel Locatelli & Federico Gatti -4.5: They just had a very little effect on this team today and this helped Benfica to create more and more chances. Manuel Locatelli was better on the ball than Gatti, but neither were good.

Tim Weah – 6: Tim Weah had some shining qualities at right back when he went for it. But defensively he lacked some qualities which most of the team did which was the big issue today.

Douglas Luiz – 4: Douglas Luiz was ghosting today, and he had no real effect on the game and if you told me he hadn’t played I would have believed you.

Khepren Thuram – 5.5: He was our best midfielder today not that it is a feat that he should be bragging about because this whole side was terrible excluding some exceptions.

Samuel Mbangula – 5.5He was very quiet, but he did have his moments of attacking flair but bringing him off in the 60th minute was the right choice the game seemed a little too big for him.

Kenan Yildiz – 5.5:  He was consistently involved with the play but didn’t have anything special to show for it. Just seemed very quiet even when he had a lot of space.

Francisco Conceicao – 6.5: Conceicao was our main attacking threat but with everyone else around him not doing much it was very hard for him to have a big impact.

Dusan Vlahovic – 5: Dusan Vlahovic was poor today as no one in the attack made anything for him to use, but he should have done more to create chances for himself.
