Juventus took on Monza away on a Sunday night clash in the U-Power Stadium. Juventus won the game from goals by Weston Mckennie off a corner and Nico Gonzalez both in the first half. Juventus took 16 shots on goal away.
Juventus controlled the game against Monza with 55 percent possession. This is because of Monza’s low block allowing Juventus time on the ball. But Juventus lacked a slight bit of creativity from the centre from Koopmeiners and Gonzalez.
This lack of creativity left Dusan Vlahovic a bit unsupported to create chances. However, since to the strength on the wings from Francisco Conceicao and Kenan Yildiz. The defence has helped the wings with runs from Nico Savona. But the defence was a bit open with Loca sitting a bit higher and Kalulu having wider positions for some reason.
However, this team still seems get complacent once we take a lead of a game. This was clear in the second half since even though we had more possession we had one less shot. This wasn’t capitalized on today but definitely can be in the future.
Player Ratings –
Defence
Michele Di Gregorio – 6.5: Di Gregorio didn’t have a bad game at all even though he concedes one. He just didn’t have a lot to do especially since a lot of the build-up didn’t need him.
Weston Mckennie – 7: Mckennie had a good game starting at left back, then moving to midfield and as a false 9 at the end of the game. He was a steady player at left back, not getting up the pitch as much as Cambiaso does. He was quite as a ten before being taken off due to the whole team being complacent. He also got the first goal from a corner.
Pierre Kalulu – 5.5: Kalulu has been poor as a centre back recently with his positioning being poor. You can make the argument of him being tired due to not having a back-up. But personally, I think he is better as a full back.
Federico Gatti – 6: Gatti did more than Kalulu and was positioned better, but other than that his game was really average. Still helped us get the three points and wasn’t bad on the pitch.
Nico Savona – 7.5: Savona was one of our better players today as he would get up the pitch heavily to support Conceicao on the right-hand side. He was also good defensively in the positions he filled.
Midfield –
Manuel Locatelli – 7: Locatelli had another good game, filling his position well. He controlled the game well with the support of Weston Mckennie on the left-hand side. For his standard this game was poor, but he couldn’t do much more.
Teun Koopmeiners – 6: Teun Koopmeiners played an okay game in the eight roles, but he was bit quiet. However, it is hard to judge him since he came off with injury. We also don’t know when he picked it up since he didn’t look perfect.
Nico Gonzalez – 8: Nico Gonzalez got the goal to put Juventus 2-1 ahead today and was good before and after it went in. He’s still not fit enough to play a full 90 minutes, but he was good and the man of the match.
Kenan Yildiz – 8: Yildiz had another great game, and he looked like our best offensive threat once again. He will only get better as well since Cambiaso will come back fully soon. Could have had a couple assists today if things went his way.
Francisco Conceicao – 7: Conceicao had a good game today but was somewhat stagnant. He used his raw pace less today, but it could be because of the rough Monza defence.
Attack
Dusan Vlahovic – 6.5: Dusan didn’t have a poor game, but he was unlucky. He was so close to scoring but just couldn’t get on the end on one. He could have had a couple penalties as the Monza players would grab and claw at him.
