Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter compete with Atletico for Tottenham star
Three of Serie A’s biggest clubs Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter are reportedly preparing to rival Atletico Madrid for the signature of Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero, as speculation over the Argentine’s future intensifies.
Cristian Romero appeared set to stay at Spurs this summer, especially if former boss Ange Postecoglou remained in charge.
However, despite leading the club to Europa League glory, the Australian coach was dismissed following a dismal 17th-place Premier League finish.
The arrival of Thomas Frank as Spurs’ new manager has shifted the landscape. While Frank has already made moves in the market signing Mohammed Kudus and nearing a deal for Morgan Gibbs-White—Romero’s future is once again in doubt, partly due to his close relationship with Postecoglou.
Although Atletico Madrid remain favorites according to betting markets, they’ve yet to make a formal offer.
Tottenham is expected to demand around $70 million for the 26-year-old, who has established himself as one of Europe’s most commanding defenders. Romero still has two years remaining on his contract.
A return to Serie A is gaining traction, with Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter all reportedly keen. Romero has previous experience in Italy with Genoa, Atalanta, and Juventus—though he never made a first-team appearance for the Bianconeri.
His most impactful stint came at Atalanta, which led to his $55 million move to Tottenham in 2022.
Juventus have already added Pierre Kalulu and Lloyd Kelly to their backline, but with coach Igor Tudor expected to implement a three-man defense, additional reinforcements could be required.
A reunion with Romero may fit their tactical vision for 2025/26.
Meanwhile, AC Milan, guided this summer by Massimiliano Allegri, are also in the market for a center-back.
The Rossoneri have already added Luka Modrić and Samuele Ricci, but must also manage the uncertainty surrounding Rafael Leão.
Inter Milan, now under Cristian Chivu, are likewise reported to hold Romero in high regard and could enter the bidding war soon.
As of now, none of the Italian clubs have contacted Tottenham to open official negotiations.
However, with Romero’s future unsettled and demand increasing, movement in this transfer saga is expected in the coming days.
With multiple top clubs circling and Tottenham potentially open to a sale, Cristian Romero’s next move could be one of the defining stories of this summer’s transfer window.
