Juventus are reportedly in discussions with French club Olympique Marseille over the potential transfer of American winger Timothy Weah, with a deal worth €15 million being discussed the same amount that was previously agreed with Nottingham Forest.
Weah, 25, has had a busy summer filled with transfer speculation. Just weeks ago, he turned down a move to Premier League side Nottingham Forest, who were ready to sign him alongside fellow winger Samuel Mbangula.
However, the deal collapsed after Weah failed to agree on personal terms with the English club, prompting Juventus to search for another buyer.
According to L’Équipe and Italian media sources, Marseille have emerged as serious contenders for Weah’s signature.
The French side, who finished second in Ligue 1 behind PSG, will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season something that could appeal to Weah, especially when compared to Forest’s participation in the UEFA Conference League.
After the Forest deal fell through, Weah’s agent expressed disappointment over how the negotiations were handled, stating:
“Weah is a fantastic player and a fantastic teammate. Seeing people behave like this for money and selfishness has disappointed me a lot. No one can push one of the players I represent to move from one side or another like a puppet.”
He added that Weah remains focused on his game and well-prepared for the future.
Should the move to Marseille go through, Weah would reunite with former Juventus teammate Adrien Rabiot and be coached by Italian tactician Roberto De Zerbi, who is preparing for his second season with the French giants.
In a related note, Juventus have reportedly shown interest in Marseille center-back Leonardo Balerdi, a player well-known to former OM coach Igor Tudor.
However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Balerdi is not part of the Weah negotiations, and Marseille are not looking to sell the Argentine defender.
While nothing is finalized yet, the talks between Juventus and Marseille are ongoing. Weah, who joined Juventus in 2023 from Lille, could be heading back to Ligue 1, where he previously made a name for himself.
