Former AC Milan star Sandro Tonali is reportedly desperate to make a return to Serie A, with speculation linking him to Juventus.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreInter), Tonali is keen to leave Newcastle United after less than two years at the club.
The midfielder made a high-profile move to Newcastle from AC Milan for a reported fee of €70 million in the summer of 2023, making him the most expensive Italian footballer of all time. However, his tenure at St James’ Park has been far from successful.
A significant blow for the Italian midfielder came in the form of a 10-month suspension for illegal betting activities, which was announced on October 18, 2023, after investigations by the Italian Prosecutor’s Office and the Italian Football Federation.
This ban has severely limited his playing time, with his career in England being significantly derailed. Now, the Italy international is looking to return to his homeland, where he has previously thrived in Serie A.
While a transfer of this magnitude seems unlikely to materialize in the January window, Newcastle United could be open to offers for Tonali at the end of the season, given his unsettled status and the impact of his ban.
Despite his deep-rooted connections with AC Milan, where he was once a fan favorite, interest in Tonali has now turned towards Juventus.
The Rossoneri would certainly be interested in bringing back the 24-year-old to San Siro, but financial constraints might hinder any such move, potentially leaving the path clear for Juventus.
If Sandro Tonali becomes available on the transfer market, there’s no doubt that Juventus would position themselves to pursue his signing, though currently, such a move seems far from reality.
