Juventus looks to secure Milan defender in Riyadh meeting

Juventus plans to use its presence in Riyadh for the Italian Super Cup as an opportunity to negotiate a potential transfer for Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.

The Italian Super Cup will feature a mini-tournament format this year, with Juventus facing AC Milan in the semi-finals on January 3rd at the Al-Awwal Stadium. The winner will face either Inter or Atalanta in the final.

However, the tournament isn’t just about football matches for Juventus. According to Tuttosport via IlBianconero, the Bianconeri are also seizing the occasion to explore transfer possibilities, particularly a move for Tomori.

Juventus finds itself in dire need of defensive reinforcements following devastating ACL injuries to Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal. The club’s Football Director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has already confirmed that the team must secure a defender during the January transfer window.

Fikayo Tomori, a seasoned Serie A player, has emerged as a prime candidate. The 27-year-old Englishman joined Milan in January 2021 and was instrumental in their 2021/22 Scudetto-winning campaign, forming a formidable partnership with Pierre Kalulu.

This season, Tomori’s status at Milan has diminished under manager Paulo Fonseca, with Matteo Gabbia and Malick Thiaw becoming the preferred choices in defense. This development could pave the way for Juventus to negotiate his transfer.

Juventus hopes to reunite Tomori with Kalulu, who is currently on loan from Milan. The Turin club is expected to activate their option to permanently sign Kalulu at the end of the season, potentially rekindling their once-formidable defensive pairing.

Juventus is reportedly aiming to hold talks with Milan officials in Riyadh to gauge the possibility of signing Tomori. With both teams present for the Italian Super Cup, the timing is seen as ideal to discuss market opportunities.

The January transfer window will be crucial for Juventus as they look to strengthen their depleted backline. Securing Tomori could significantly bolster their defense and improve their chances in the Serie A and other competitions.
