Despite an impressive performance that saw him score his first two goals for Juventus, Khephren Thuram’s night against Fiorentina ended in frustration. A late equalizer from Riccardo Sottil forced a 2-2 draw, extending Juventus’ alarming record to 11 draws in 18 Serie A matches.
Thuram, who joined Juventus from OGC Nice, showcased his attacking prowess with a brilliant solo goal and a poacher’s finish. However, Moise Kean, making his return to the Allianz Stadium, equalized once and set up the second goal for Fiorentina.
Speaking after the match, Thuram expressed his disappointment:
“After a game like this, we are all angry, as we know we had to win,” the French midfielder said during his post-match press conference.
The 23-year-old emphasized the importance of learning from these setbacks and quickly shifting focus to the upcoming Super Cup:
“From tomorrow, we will focus on recovering for the Super Cup, which is right around the corner. We are playing against a good team, and we have to be ready to give our all and win.”
Thuram highlighted the need for better communication and game management to avoid late-game lapses:
“Sometimes you have to score and close it out; other times, you need to prevent conceding. It’s something we sense on the pitch during the game. We must talk to each other to avoid these situations.”
While the result was disappointing, Thuram took solace in his personal performance:
“I was happy to score my first goals with this shirt and against a big club. I always work hard and try to improve every day. I feel good in the team and with the coach. It’s been a positive period.”
He credited his freedom on the pitch and consistent coaching for his attacking output:
“Motta always tells me to play with my qualities and to be free on the pitch. Today I felt free and tried to go into the box more to score goals, assists, or play high.”
Juventus now sits sixth in the Serie A table with 32 points, trailing leaders Atalanta and Napoli by nine points. Their next challenge lies in the Super Cup, where they will aim to bounce back from recent disappointments.
