The primary objective remains Champions League qualification, but Juventus is also setting its sights on a major signing to elevate the quality of its midfield.
Cristiano Giuntoli, the club’s Football Director, is spearheading this plan, aiming to position the Bianconeri as a dominant force in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sandro Tonali has emerged as the prime target for Juventus. The 24-year-old midfielder is widely appreciated within the club, with unanimous support for his potential arrival.
Following last summer’s squad overhaul led by Giuntoli, Juventus now believes that just a few high-quality additions will be enough to make them competitive at the highest level.
Tonali possesses all the attributes Juventus is looking for: youth, Italian nationality—helping bolster the club’s domestic core—and exceptional technical ability.
While no formal negotiations have begun, initial indirect contacts have already taken place. The midfielder is currently content at Newcastle United, but the prospect of returning to Italy could be enticing for him.
Juventus could leverage its strong relationship with Newcastle, especially after signing Lloyd Kelly from the English club in the winter transfer window. This connection may provide a favorable platform for negotiations.
However, bringing Tonali back to Serie A will require a significant investment—reportedly in the range of €60-70 million. Juventus could look to lower this cost by including player exchanges in the deal.
Possible Player Swaps
To facilitate Tonali’s transfer, Juventus may offer several players as part of the deal. One such candidate is Douglas Luiz, who has struggled in his first season in Italy due to injuries and a lack of chemistry with coach Thiago Motta.
Despite his struggles, the Brazilian remains highly regarded in England, where he impressed with Aston Villa in the 2023/24 season, recording 10 goals and 10 assists.
Federico Gatti is another possible inclusion, given Newcastle’s previous interest in him. Magpies manager Eddie Howe has long admired the Italian defender.
Additionally, Dusan Vlahovic could be an option. The Serbian striker’s contract expires in 2026, and Juventus may be open to selling him in the coming months, with the Premier League being a likely destination.
Sandro Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in the summer of 2023 for approximately €60 million. The Italian midfielder is currently under contract with the English club until June 30, 2028.
Given his long-term deal, any potential transfer would require a substantial financial commitment from Juventus.
