Juventus set to bring Llyod Kelly in on loan

Juventus are set to bring in Llyod Kelly in from Newcastle on loan with an obligation to buy. This will end the current Juventus need for a defender which has been key this merecato. This is because of two ACL injuries suffered by Bremer and Juan Cabal.

This left the Juventus defence undermanned all of the season leading to three defensive signings this merecato. But with Pierre Kalulu new injury we won’t know how long he will be out for this could create new issues.

And it didn’t look like, Juventus were going to make a centre back signing after negotiations for Kevin Danso deal broke down. This would have been a massive issue if Juventus didn’t sign someone so a deal for Kelly was rushed.

This benefits Newcastle as he is not needed currently. He was bought in on a free to see if they could accommodate him. However, he wasn’t needed at all this season as he has only played 301 minutes in the Premier League. So, they looked to loan him to get rid of some of his salary.

Juventus will pay a total of 18 million euros to sign Kelly. This is for 3 million in loan fees and another 15 million on the buy obligation. I think that this deal is embarrassing for Juventus and especially Cristian Giuntoli.

Giuntoli had multiple months to plan to bring in a new centre back as it was clear we would need someone. Instead, all he did was focus on David Hancko, who he knew wouldn’t be able to leave and who we can’t afford.

As well we had Dean Huijsen at the start of this season, and he was sold to Bournemouth for 15 million euros the same price as Llyod Kelly. And this season in the Premier League he has proved that he is a far better player. But he did this to bring in Douglas Luiz and Teun Koopmeiners who have both flopped so far.
