Juventus v Man City: Match preview, team news, how to watch and probable XI

This Wednesday evening, Turin will host a significant Champions League encounter as Juventus faces a struggling Manchester City side.

Both teams have underperformed this season, with Juventus often settling for draws and Manchester City grappling with a crisis of confidence.

Juventus have maintained an unbeaten record in matches against Manchester City, with three wins and two draws since their first encounter in 1976.

However, their current form in the Champions League has been inconsistent, with only two wins from their first five games. In Serie A, they’ve drawn their last match against Bologna, maintaining their position with a solid defensive record but still trailing in the title race by seven points.

The Cityzens, on the other hand, under Pep Guardiola, have seen their form dip dramatically. A recent 3-3 draw against Feyenoord at home, where they lost a three-goal lead, has fueled discussions about the end of an era.

This followed a 4-1 defeat to Sporting CP, marking one of their poorest runs since Guardiola’s tenure began. City’s defense, which was once impenetrable, has now conceded seven goals in their last two European fixtures, leaving them with just eight points and in a playoff position.

Their domestic performance hasn’t been much better, with a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, where Rico Lewis scored twice but was later sent off. This leaves City with the challenge of avoiding a new club record for consecutive games without a win as they travel to Italy.

Team News

The Bianconeri have been hit with several injuries, but there’s some positive news. Dusan Vlahovic has returned from a three-week thigh injury, and Nicolo Savona is back in contention.

However, Nico Gonzalez, Juan Cabal, and Bremer remain out, with Andrea Cambiaso, Weston McKennie and Douglas Luiz doubtful after featuring in Tuesday’s training session with the  group.

Meanwhile, the injury list for City is extensive, with Phil Foden potentially available after missing the last game due to bronchitis. Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Mateo Kovacic, Rodri, and Oscar Bobb are all ruled out.

Rico Lewis, despite facing a domestic suspension, is available for this match and has been pivotal in the Champions League. Matheus Nunes has also been in fine form, assisting three goals in his last three European outings.
