Juventus weighs future of Thiago Motta as Zidane dream emerges

Juventus management is in deep deliberation over the future of head coach Thiago Motta, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tuttojuve).

With the international break providing a pause in Serie A action, the club’s top executives have taken the opportunity to thoroughly assess their options, particularly in light of their crucial objective—securing a Champions League spot.

With only nine league matches remaining, the fourth-place finish is a non-negotiable target, not just for prestige but for the substantial financial benefits UEFA participation brings to the club’s balance sheet.

In recent internal discussions, the fundamental question has been: does Motta provide the best chance for Juventus to secure a top-four finish? The team’s latest performances have triggered concerns, leading to increased speculation about alternative solutions.

However, the prevailing sentiment within the club appears to be that Motta will receive one final opportunity to turn things around. That decisive test will come in the first match after the break—a crucial home fixture against Genoa next Saturday.

At the same time, Juventus is actively considering a contingency plan. Should results continue to falter, two high-profile names have emerged as leading candidates to replace Motta: Roberto Mancini and Igor Tudor.

Both Mancini and Tudor are open to joining immediately but prefer a longer contract. However, Juventus would rather appoint an interim coach to keep options open.

Beyond these immediate alternatives, an even more ambitious possibility has surfaced—Zinedine Zidane. The legendary Frenchman, a former Juventus icon, remains a long-term dream for many within the club.

While Zidane is widely expected to take over the French national team after the 2026 World Cup, some figures at Juventus still hold onto the hope that he could be enticed to return to Turin sooner.

With time running out and pressure mounting, Juventus faces a pivotal decision. The next match could determine Motta’s fate, but behind the scenes, preparations for a potential change are well underway.
