Koopmeiners struggles Motta’s support and Juventus midfield dilemma ahead of PSV clash

With just over 24 hours until the kickoff of Juventus vs. PSV, uncertainty remains over whether Teun Koopmeiners will start the match.

The Dutch midfielder is coming off another disappointing performance this season his showing against Como on Friday was marred by a costly mistake that led to the home side’s equalizing goal. Despite this, Juventus coach Thiago Motta has continued to stand by him.

“I have been very happy with him since day one,” Motta stated in his press conference. “He always trains well, always gives his best. He has played in different roles with great performances, and he is improving.

I am very satisfied, and I am convinced we can all give more, but I am happy with Koop’s work so far.”

Speaking to Sky (via Ilbianconero), Motta added: “He could have done things differently in that moment, but so could the entire team. We did not play well against Como, and they deserved to win based on the key moments.

Koop did not have a good game, and he knows it. He knows he must improve, but so do  I and so does everyone.”

Motta is well aware that the Dutchman is going through a rough patch. However, he may still decide to start him, possibly in an attacking midfield role again despite evidence that he performs better as a mezzala (box-to-box midfielder) or as a deep-lying playmaker.

If Koopmeiners does not start, Weston McKennie is ready to step in, a player known for his versatility and ability to adapt to different roles on the pitch.
