In response to a wave of negative feedback following his performance in Juventus’ recent match, young left-back Jonas Rouhi has taken the step to disable comments on his social media accounts.
The 20-year-old Swedish defender, who has been with Juventus since January 2020, joined from Bromma and progressed through the club’s youth ranks, including the U17, Primavera, and Next Gen teams.
Rouhi’s journey to the first team was marked by his impressive showings during pre-season, which caught the attention of Juventus coach Thiago Motta, leading to his promotion to the senior squad.
Initially, he split his time between Juventus’s first team and the Next Gen side, but a severe ACL injury to teammate Juan Cabal necessitated his permanent inclusion in the main squad.
During last Saturday’s match against Bologna, Rouhi was brought on after Andrea Cambiaso’s injury.
Despite the team’s general underperformance, Rouhi bore the brunt of criticism for his play at left-back, which led to his decision to disable comments on Instagram, as reported by IlBianconero.
The negative feedback came in the wake of Juventus’ 2-2 draw with Bologna, highlighting the pressures young footballers face in today’s digital era.
The move by Rouhi to shut off comments underscores a broader issue of the intense scrutiny young athletes endure on social media platforms.
“This incident highlights the ever-increasing pressure on footballers, especially the younger ones, in the digital age,” the report noted.
While Rouhi’s performance against Bologna was not his finest, it’s crucial to acknowledge that he is still acclimating to the demands of senior football.
With only limited first-team experience, his sudden introduction into a match where Juventus were already behind might have played a role in his performance.
