Fabregas criticizes VAR after controversial decision in Como 1-2 Juventus match

Cesc Fabregas, the head coach of Como, voiced his strong dissatisfaction following his team’s defeat against Juventus, highlighting what he believes to be repeated refereeing injustices. In an interview with Sky Sport via (Ilbianconero), he specifically pointed out a controversial handball decision involving Juventus defender Federico Gatti.

Fabregas was adamant that Como did not deserve to lose and was particularly frustrated by a key moment in the match. “We played a great sixty minutes and deserved more.

But there are certain things you just can’t fight against. Gatti’s handball was clear; there’s no debate. Douvikas controlled the ball with his chest, and then Gatti pushed it away with his hand. If he hadn’t touched it, we would have had a clear scoring opportunity.”

The Como coach also expressed his frustration over a pattern of unfavorable decisions in previous matches: “It’s not the first time. Against Lazio, Gigot’s hard tackle on Paz went unpunished, and we lost a key player.

A blatant foul against Milan in midfield was ignored, leading to us conceding a goal. In Como-Udinese, Goldaniga was sent off despite not making contact with his opponent. Again versus Lazio, Pellegrini, already on a yellow card, fouled Diao but got away with it.”

The Spanish manager raised serious concerns about how VAR is applied in such scenarios: “This has been happening repeatedly. I have to stand up for Como and the city.

Enough is enough. I don’t blame the referee, as he might have missed it, but if VAR doesn’t intervene in such an obvious case, I start questioning how matches are being officiated.”

Fabregas’ remarks have reignited debates about the consistency of VAR decisions in Italian football. Whether the league takes any action in response to his comments remains to be seen.
