Mattia De Sciglio set for an early return to Juventus

Mattia De Sciglio’s tenure at Empoli appears to be nearing an early conclusion, with the defender poised to return to Juventus before potentially joining Serie B side Palermo.

Despite his move to Empoli in the summer transfer window, De Sciglio has struggled for game time, accumulating only 170 minutes in Serie A and an additional 90 minutes in the Coppa Italia.

The emergence of young talent Giorgi Gocholeishvili has further limited his opportunities on the field.

A recent incident during Empoli’s match against Torino, where De Sciglio was sent off from the bench and subsequently suspended for one game, has intensified speculation about his future with the club.

Tuttosport suggest that Empoli and De Sciglio are negotiating an early termination of his loan agreement, initially set to last until the end of the season. Juventus had agreed to cover a portion of his salary during this loan period.

Upon his return to Juventus, De Sciglio is expected to be loaned out to Palermo. The Sicilian club, currently under the City Football Group’s ownership, is aiming to strengthen its squad to improve its standing in Serie B.

The transfer is anticipated to be finalized when the January transfer window opens. However, De Sciglio’s disciplinary issues have also been a concern.

His recent suspension, resulting from dissent towards the referee and unsportsmanlike conduct during the match against Torino, has sidelined him for Empoli’s upcoming fixture against Atalanta.

As the January transfer window approaches, all parties are working towards reaching an agreement that facilitates De Sciglio’s move to Palermo, providing him with an opportunity for more consistent playing time.
