Rabiot blames giuntoli for Juventus exit

Former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has spoken out about his departure from the club, pinning the blame squarely on sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli while also defending former coach Thiago Motta.
Rabiot, now 30, joined Juventus as a free agent in 2019 and became a key figure under Massimiliano Allegri, even wearing the captain’s armband. However, a contract renewal fell through last summer, prompting a move to Olympique Marseille.
“We wanted to continue together. Thiago Motta had called me, but Giuntoli didn’t do what was necessary to convince me”.
“There was no clear vision, no ambition. For years, the signings haven’t reflected the club’s stature. I was frustrated.”
Rabiot also criticized the club’s recent instability, referencing Motta’s quick dismissal.
“They said it was year zero… but after a few bad results, everything was reset again. It made no sense to sack such an excellent coach so soon. Thiago has a big future.”
Despite the bitter end, Rabiot expressed deep affection for Juventus, calling his years in Turin “fundamental.”
“Juventus shaped me. I matured here and received incredible affection from fans and the club. Wearing the captain’s armband was a true honor.”
He reserved special praise for Allegri, whom he remains close to.
“I still speak with Allegri often. He’s like a father figure. I can talk to him about anything, not just football. He has a winner’s mentality.”
Rabiot’s move to Marseille marks a new chapter, but his statements highlight lingering frustration over Juventus’ internal direction and the handling of his exit.
