Renato Veiga suffers calf injury

Juventus’ return leg of the Champions League playoffs began on a sour note as they were forced into an early substitution against PSV Eindhoven.

Portuguese defender Renato Veiga sustained an injury just 11 minutes into the match, prompting head coach Thiago Motta to make an immediate change. Andrea Cambiaso was brought on to replace him.

The injury occurred as Veiga attempted to intercept an opponent in midfield. He quickly grabbed his calf and went down, signaling to the bench that he could not continue.

Early indications suggest that the issue is muscular, though further evaluations in the coming hours will determine the severity.

According to reports from Prime Video, the preliminary assessment points to a calf muscle problem. A more detailed medical evaluation is expected to take place on the following day to clarify the extent of the injury and the potential recovery period.

With limited defensive options on the bench, Thiago Motta opted to introduce Cambiaso, who took up the left-back role while Joe Kelly was shifted to central defense. Cambiaso had to enter the game without a proper warm-up, adapting quickly to the high-intensity encounter.

Juventus will now await further medical updates to determine how long Veiga may be sidelined and assess their defensive options moving forward.
