Arrigo Sacchi believes Juventus must strengthen in the transfer market after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Lecce, highlighting Jonathan David’s missed penalty as a symbol of the Bianconeri’s attacking problems.
Juventus went into Saturday’s Serie A clash on a three-game winning run and were hoping to take advantage of a favourable schedule to close the gap on the title race. However, the dropped points in Turin mean Inter could move six points clear with a game in hand if they beat Bologna.
Sacchi warned against underestimating any opponent in Serie A, praising Lecce for their courage and organisation under Eusebio Di Francesco.
“Everyone expected a fourth straight Juventus victory,” Sacchi wrote. “Instead, Lecce earned the result with spirit, sacrifice and a bit of luck.”
The former Milan coach was particularly critical of Juventus’s attacking display, claiming Luciano Spalletti’s side failed to show the quality expected of them, despite creating several chances.

Sacchi singled out Jonathan David’s missed penalty, calling the attempt “incomprehensible.”
“I don’t understand how a striker who hasn’t scored since the opening match of the season can take a penalty like that,” he wrote. “It wasn’t even a proper chip.”
However, Sacchi stressed that the problems go beyond one missed spot-kick. He also pointed to Lois Openda’s late miss from close range as further evidence that Juventus lack the right attacking profiles for Spalletti’s style of play.
“The attack looks soft,” Sacchi added. “These players don’t seem ideal for the football Spalletti wants. He’s an experienced coach who loves quality football, but there is still a lot of work to do.”
According to Sacchi, the solution is clear: Juventus’s directors must intervene in the transfer market to support their coach and improve the team’s attacking options.
