Newcastle eye Juventus star in january transfer window
Newcastle United are preparing for a potential midfield boost in the January transfer window, with Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli emerging as a top target.
Despite their impressive 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on October 5, sources suggest manager Eddie Howe is still eager to strengthen his midfield options.
The trio of Bruno Guimarães, Joelinton, and Sandro Tonali has been exceptional, but depth remains a concern as Newcastle push for both domestic and European success.

Locatelli, who has been in excellent form for Juventus, is being closely monitored by the Magpies. The Italian midfielder has attracted attention from several European clubs, including Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen, but Juventus are reportedly reluctant to let him leave midway through the season.
“It’s a difficult deal to do,” a source close to the situation said. “Locatelli is the club captain, and Juventus are performing well both in Serie A and the Champions League. They won’t want to weaken their squad in January.”
The 25-year-old, who remains a regular for Italy’s national team, is also believed to be focusing on maintaining his form ahead of the 2026 World Cup, making a mid-season transfer less likely.
However, Newcastle could revisit their interest after the World Cup, with Sandro Tonali Locatelli’s international teammate potentially playing a key role in convincing him to make the switch to the Premier League.
Tonali has quickly become a fan favourite at St. James’ Park, and insiders believe his presence could influence Locatelli’s future decision if Newcastle continue their upward trajectory.

“No surprise that clubs are looking at him,” the source added. “He’s a top player and fits perfectly into the kind of midfield Eddie Howe wants. Newcastle will keep monitoring his situation closely.”
For now, Juventus remain firm in their stance Locatelli is not for sale in January. But with Newcastle’s growing ambitions and financial strength, this story could resurface once the World Cup dust settles.
