Former Italian footballer Antonio Cassano has voiced strong opinions on Juventus’ managerial situation, calling for the dismissal of head coach Thiago Motta.
The Bianconeri have faced a turbulent season under Motta, who took over from Max Allegri last summer, but has struggled to meet expectations.
Juventus’ recent form in Serie A has shown signs of improvement, yet their performances in cup competitions have been disappointing.
After crashing out of the Champions League last week, the club suffered another major setback by being eliminated from the Coppa Italia at the hands of Empoli. Following the defeat, Motta publicly criticized his players, urging them to reflect on their poor display and attitude on the pitch.
Cassano, known for his outspoken nature, believes the real problem lies with the coach rather than the players. The former Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and AS Roma forward did not hold back in his assessment of Motta’s tenure, arguing that Juventus should seek a new manager regardless of how the season ends.
“I don’t think Juventus should continue with Thiago Motta next season,” Cassano said during an appearance on Via el Futbol (via IlBianconero). “Even if he wins the Scudetto, it won’t change my opinion.
The failures in the Champions League and Coppa Italia cannot be overlooked. Given the signings made last summer, I expected a much better season.”
He further criticized Motta for his handling of certain players, particularly Khephren Thuram, who has seen limited game time despite his potential.
“I don’t understand why he doubts players like Thuram, who I consider one of Juventus’ best. After his spell at Bologna, I anticipated a completely different impact from Motta,” Cassano added.
As the season heads toward its final stretch, Juventus’ management will face a crucial decision regarding Motta’s future. Whether he can prove his critics wrong remains to be seen, but Cassano’s remarks add further pressure to an already intense debate within the club and its fanbase.
