After Juventus’ match against Cagliari, head coach Thiago Motta shared his thoughts on the team’s performance in an interview with DAZN (via Ilbianconero). He highlighted both the positives and areas needing improvement, emphasizing the team’s need for better finishing and consistency.
Motta expressed his admiration for Kenan Yildiz, acknowledging his physical, technical, and mental strength. He noted that Yildiz’s versatility allows him to perform effectively both on the wings and centrally.
While praising his ability to create opportunities, Motta stressed the need for improvement in finishing, particularly when cutting in from the left flank.
The coach pointed out that Yildiz is capable of powerful offensive runs but must work on capitalizing on them with better shot execution. Motta believes continued effort in training will help Yildiz develop into a more clinical finisher.
Discussing the team’s attacking strategies, Motta highlighted the roles of Weston McKennie and Teun Koopmeiners in Juventus’ offensive transitions.
He acknowledged Yildiz’s immense potential, emphasizing his ability to contribute in both attack and defense. The coach pointed out that the young forward possesses the necessary movement and physicality to trouble opposing defenders and goalkeepers alike.Motta reinforced the importance of persistence in honing Yildiz’s finishing ability.
Motta also spoke about Juventus’ tactical approach, explaining that having two central defenders alongside Manuel Locatelli in midfield allowed the team to dominate possession and create scoring chances.
He noted that Juventus aimed to exploit long passes from goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio to gain an advantage over Cagliari’s defensive setup.
The team managed to control the game well, but a lack of sharpness in finishing prevented them from securing a more comfortable result. Motta emphasized that if the team had capitalized on their first half opportunities, the outcome might have been different. However, he commended the squad’s ability to endure pressure in the second half.
When asked about Juventus being six points behind the league leaders, Motta remained focused on a match by match approach. He acknowledged the balanced nature of the current Serie A season, where many teams struggle to secure victories consistently.
Motta pointed out that apart from Atalanta, other teams have also found it difficult to close out games decisively. With Juventus set to face Hellas Verona next after their Coppa Italia fixture, the coach stressed the importance of maintaining intensity and striving for maximum points in every match.
Juventus will now shift their attention to the upcoming fixtures, looking to build on their recent performances and stay competitive in the league title race.
