Thiago Motta under pressure after Juventus Champions League elimination

The first major setback of the season has arrived for Juventus, as they have been eliminated early from the Champions League playoff stage falling short of their intended goal.

The club had set reaching the Round of 16 as a key objective, both in terms of sporting ambition and financial gain. Advancing to the next stage would have brought in over €11 million, a significant boost for the club’s revenue.

Exiting the Champions League, especially in such a manner, calls for deep reflection on what went wrong and why the team failed to achieve its targets.

In recent years, Juventus’ European campaign has often influenced managerial decisions. Previous coaches such as Massimiliano Allegri, Andrea Pirlo, and Maurizio Sarri faced repercussions following disappointing exits from the competition. With the latest setback, questions are now being raised about Thiago Motta’s position as head coach.

Thiago Motta appeared visibly disappointed and frustrated after the match, reflecting the weight of the club’s European failure. According to Illbianconero, the elimination is a major blow, not only from a financial perspective but also in terms of team morale and competitive aggression.

The missed opportunity means Juventus must now focus solely on domestic competitions, but even there, challenges remain.

Although the club’s management has offered public backing for Motta, his performance in the coming months will be closely monitored. Despite Juventus currently sitting in fourth place in Serie A, the pressure is mounting.

The recent elimination in the Supercoppa semifinal against AC Milan only adds to the concerns about the team’s trajectory this season.

For a club of Juventus’ stature, results are everything. Falling short in the Champions League is already a disappointment, but failing to secure a top four finish in Serie A would be considered disastrous.
