Juventus has come under significant financial stress following the Covid-19 pandemic at the start of the decade. This led to the complete shutdown of games, meaning there was no incoming revenue. When games eventually resumed, there were no in-stadium crowds.

This situation worsened when Juventus was deducted 15 points at the beginning of 2023. This penalty caused Juventus to miss out on all European football for the 2023/24 season, creating further financial hardship. This made it hard for Juventus to sign players and stay within financial fair play rules

Juventus was ambitious in the mercato at the beginning of the season, attempting to build a new team around Thiago Motta. However, this plan didn’t work out, and Motta has since been sacked. This heavy spending means Juventus must qualify for the UEFA Champions League to afford significant transfers at the end of this season.

Juventus currently sits one point behind fourth place, the final Champions League qualification spot. Rumours suggest that players may need to be sold to fund the next mercato. A similar situation occurred at the beginning of this season, with young players like Dean Huijsen, Nicolò Fagioli, and Matías Soulé being sold.

Kenan Yıldız has been linked with a potential sale, but according to Romeo Agresti, he will most likely stay in Turin. This is due to his love for the club, with club legend Alessandro Del Piero famously being his hero growing up. Juventus also sees him as a marquee and crucial player.

There has also been significant talk that Andrea Cambiaso might leave Juventus to join Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola viewing him as a pillar of City’s future. There were even discussions of a deal in January that never materialized. However, according to TuttoMercato, Cambiaso now wants to stay with Juventus and build a great career there.
