Igor Tudor pushes Juventus to sign Sporting CP star

Juventus are once again showing strong interest in Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand, but the potential transfer is complicated by a dispute over his release clause with Sporting CP.

Hjulmand was sold by Lecce to Sporting in the summer of 2023. Since then, he has developed impressively, especially from a technical standpoint. Juventus were among the Italian clubs that tried to sign him before, and they now regret missing out.

Juventus coach Igor Tudor is a big admirer of the 25-year-old and is pushing for the club to try again.

The biggest issue is Hjulmand’s release clause. Sporting are demanding €80 million, the value stated in the clause.

However, Hjulmand’s camp argues that this clause was only valid as long as coach Rúben Amorim remained at the club. Since Amorim has now joined Manchester United, they believe the clause no longer applies.

Sporting disagree, insisting the clause is still legally binding.

Despite the disagreement, talks between Juventus and Sporting are ongoing. If the clause is ruled invalid, Juventus hope to negotiate a lower transfer fee between €50 and €60 million.

Still, Juventus face strong competition. Several Premier League clubs are also keeping a close eye on Hjulmand, which could drive up the price.

Sporting have a reputation for being tough negotiators. The recent transfer saga of Viktor Gyokeres showed how difficult it is to sign their top players.
