Cristiano Giuntoli replacements revealed as he departs Juventus
Juventus has officially parted ways with Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli after just two years, marking a significant shift in the club’s management structure.
The decision follows a tense meeting on May 29 between Giuntoli and Juventus CEO John Elkann, held shortly before the Heysel disaster commemoration at the club’s Continassa headquarters
Giuntoli joined Juventus in the summer of 2023, bringing with him a reputation for building successful teams, notably at Napoli.
However, his tenure in Turin was marred by a series of controversial decisions and underwhelming performances.
The team’s fourth-place finish in the 2024–25 Serie A season, coupled with the early dismissal of head coach Thiago Motta after just ten months, raised questions about the club’s direction under Giuntoli’s leadership.
One of the most criticized moves during Giuntoli’s tenure was the sale of promising young defender Dean Huijsen to Bournemouth for €15.2 million in July 2024.
Huijsen’s stellar performances in the Premier League caught the attention of Real Madrid, who activated his €60 million release clause less than a year later.
This rapid increase in Huijsen’s market value led to widespread criticism of Juventus’s decision to let him go, especially considering the club’s defensive struggles following injuries to key players like Gleison Bremer.
The departure of Giuntoli is part of a broader restructuring at Juventus. Reports suggest that former Toulouse president Damien Comolli is expected to join the club on a three-year contract, while former sporting director Matteo Tognozzi may also return.
Additionally, club legend Giorgio Chiellini is set to take on increased responsibilities within the organization.
