Juventus have reportedly made a decisive move regarding the future of Pierre Kalulu, indicating their intention to keep the defender beyond his loan spell.
The Italian giants initially pursued Riccardo Calafiori and Jean-Clair Todibo during the summer transfer window but ultimately secured Kalulu from AC Milan.
Despite not being their primary target, the Frenchman has turned out to be one of the club’s most impactful signings, proving to be a reliable defensive asset.
The 24-year-old played a crucial role in Juventus’ backline, particularly in the first half of the season. His presence became even more vital when Gleison Bremer suffered an ACL injury in October, forcing Kalulu to form a solid defensive partnership with Federico Gatti.
Unfortunately, his progress was interrupted in January when he sustained an injury during a Champions League encounter against Benfica.
Having spent over a month on the sidelines, Kalulu is now back in contention. He has been included in the squad for Monday’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona, though he is unlikely to start, with Gatti and Lloyd Kelly expected to retain their spots in defense.
Despite his recent injury setback and the club’s defensive reinforcements in January, Juventus are determined to retain Kalulu for the long term.
Reports from Calciomercato, suggest that Juventus’ Football Director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has already communicated the club’s decision to the player’s agent, confirming their intention to trigger the buy option.
Juventus have already paid AC Milan €3.5 million as part of the loan agreement, and securing Kalulu’s permanent transfer will require an additional €14 million, plus potential performance-related bonuses of up to €3 million.
Given his contributions this season, the total investment is considered a bargain, particularly as Kalulu continues to develop at just 24 years of age.
With this move, Juventus aim to strengthen their defensive stability for the upcoming campaigns, banking on Kalulu’s consistency and potential for further growth.
