West Ham and Juventus are in talks to agree on a transfer deal for a midfielder
West Ham United have joined the race to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, with both clubs currently working on a transfer formula that would suit their financial needs.
The 27-year-old Brazilian arrived in Turin last summer from Aston Villa with high expectations after a successful five-year spell in the Premier League.
However, his first season in Serie A fell flat. Luiz struggled with both fitness and form and failed to register any goals or assists throughout the campaign.
With Juventus manager Igor Tudor leaving him out of his long-term plans, Luiz’s exit now seems inevitable.
Several English clubs, including Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United, had already shown interest in Luiz.
West Ham are now making a serious push to land the midfielder.Manager Graham Potter, who was spotted on the sidelines at Portman Road during a recent Premier League fixture, reportedly views Luiz as a key target to strengthen his midfield options.
Juventus signed Luiz last July in a deal valued at €50 million, which included players Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea as part of the transaction.
As a result, the Italian club is reluctant to accept less than €40 million for Luiz to avoid registering a financial loss.
To navigate this, both clubs are exploring a structured deal. One possibility is an initial loan fee of €10 million, followed by a mandatory purchase clause between €25-30 million, which would be triggered based on certain performance targets.
Talks between the two clubs are said to be ongoing, with both sides eager to find a solution that meets their respective financial strategies.
For Juventus, avoiding a capital loss is key. For West Ham, spreading the cost over time could ease budget concerns as they look to reinforce their squad under Potter.
With the summer transfer window heating up, this is a situation to watch closely.
