Why Juventus star is set to leave the club this summer

Just one year after joining Juventus, Douglas Luiz could be on his way out. The Brazilian midfielder, who arrived with high expectations following a standout season with Aston Villa, is now the subject of intense transfer speculation as the Bianconeri consider reshaping their squad.

Luiz’s transfer to Juventus last summer was seen as a major coup. He had just helped Aston Villa secure a coveted Champions League spot, boosting his profile and attracting attention from top European clubs.

Juventus, then under the leadership of Thiago Motta, beat the competition to sign him in a deal that involved parting ways with two players.

Regarded as one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League at the time, Luiz was expected to be a cornerstone in Juventus’ new project. However, the reality has been far from ideal.

Luiz failed to find his rhythm under Motta, with inconsistent performances that reportedly played a part in the manager’s eventual departure.

Things worsened under new coach Igor Tudor. The Croatian tactician has used Luiz sparingly less than five minutes per game on average suggesting the player has no real place in his tactical setup.

This lack of game time has only amplified concerns about Luiz’s suitability for the squad. With Juventus aiming to build a more competitive team for the 2025/26 season, the midfield is among the first departments expected to be overhauled.

Club executives have all but lost faith in Luiz’s ability to contribute meaningfully. Discussions are ongoing about offloading him during this transfer window to free up space in both the roster and the wage bill—two key priorities for the Turin club.

While Luiz’s talent remains undeniable, his failure to adapt to two different managerial systems has significantly damaged his standing at the club. As Juventus looks ahead, a summer exit appears inevitable.
