Why Nicolò Fagioli decided to leave Juventus for Fiorentina

It was once a love story, but now it’s over just like in Ettore Scola’s classic film C’eravamo tanto amati. Nicolò Fagioli’s 2024 has been a rollercoaster of emotions, from months of suspension to the hope of playing at the Euros and then the arrival of Thiago Motta.

At first, Motta seemed like the ideal coach to give him playing time and a new start. Instead, he became the main reason Fagioli decided to leave Juventus.

According to ilbianconero, Fagioli’s move to Fiorentina isn’t just about getting more minutes. He wanted a fresh start, away from the weight of expectations and the struggles of the past season.

Once a rising star, he found himself a shadow of what he could have been. His high point came against RB Leipzig, but from there, things quickly declined. The breaking point? The match against Inter at San Siro.

At that moment, Fagioli thought he had cemented his place in the team, becoming a key player. However, he soon realized he was only starting due to Marcus Thuram’s absence and Locatelli’s dip in form.

That realization hit him hard. Instead of fighting for his place, he decided to seek growth elsewhere. In Juventus’ last five matches, he played just 22 minutes less than five per game and spent three full matches on the bench.

Fiorentina, a club that once revitalized Moise Kean’s career, could now be the perfect place for Fagioli. He wants regular playing time and a chance to rebuild himself on the pitch. No more bench, no more waiting—just a new beginning, ball at his feet.
