Juventus star asks to leave the club

Mattia Perin has formally requested to leave Juventus this summer following another frustrating season with limited playing time. Since returning from a loan spell at Genoa in 2021, Perin has served mostly as the backup goalkeeper and is now looking for a fresh start at age 32.

Perin’s return to Juventus hasn’t gone as hoped. While former coach Thiago Motta occasionally rotated between him and Michele Di Gregorio, giving Perin sporadic opportunities, the arrival of Igor Tudor changed that.

Tudor has consistently preferred Di Gregorio as his first-choice keeper, and Perin saw his playing time decline dramatically   making just five Serie A appearances in the 2024/25 season.

Despite his professionalism and readiness, the club’s confidence in Di Gregorio has left Perin with little hope of becoming the number one.

Perin has asked Juventus to facilitate his transfer during the summer window. The report adds that he is not interested in being part of the squad for the upcoming Club World Cup, instead focusing on finding a club where he can play regularly.

Perin’s desire to move is driven by a strong belief that he still has a lot to offer  but needs a team that can guarantee him consistent minutes between the posts.

With his experience, leadership, and reliability, Perin could be an asset to many clubs. Juventus must now decide whether to hold onto him as a backup or honor his request and let him go.

The next few weeks will be crucial in determining whether Perin stays in Turin or begins a new chapter elsewhere as a first-choice goalkeeper.
