Juventus have fought their way towards winning the Derby d’Italia against Inter in the Giuseppe Meazza 0-1. The Bianconeri withstood all of the Milanese pressure to scrape yet another big win.

Inter quickly tested Wojciech Szczęsny, as Nicolò Barella took a shot from outside the box. The Polish goalkeeper was able to punch it away. Barella came close again ten minutes later after a quick combination with Romelu Lukaku. Szczęsny was able to block the hard shot from the Italian.

Even though the Nerazzurri were more dangerous, it would be Juventus that opened the score with their first opportunity of the match. After 23 minutes, Juventus countered quickly. Adrien Rabiot found Filip Kostić with a good pass. The Serbian was gifted too much time in the Inter box and he smashed it in the bottom right corner. However, VAR checked the goal for an attacking handball. Both Dusan Vlahović and Rabiot seemed to touch it with their hands, but the goal still stood.

Juventus kept pushing. Kostić was found freely on the left again. This time, he crossed it to Matias Soulé, who squandered the opportunity with a poor shot. The rest of the first half was pretty cagey and unentertaining.

Inter got a small chance at the start of the second half, when a Federico Dimarco cross fell in front of Marcelo Brozovic because Mattia de Sciglio touched it. The Croatian regista’s poor shot went wide. Viewers were really not treated with an exciting match at the Giuseppe Meazza. There were barely any good chances, mainly because of sloppiness from both sides. Substitute Federico Chiesa gave Juventus some new life. With a quick turn he started a counter, but his shot that came after a good run went wide.

Soaking up pressure

Inter put Juventus under pressure, but everytime a Bianconero leg, head or the hands of Szczęsny would get in the way of the final pass. Juventus remained dangerous on the counter, but couldn’t put a second in Inter’s net, for example when André Onana denied Manuel Locatelli from finishing Chiesa’s cross. It remained a close contest until the very end.

The subbed on Chiesa was subbed off ten minutes before the end. It looked like he felt something in his leg again. A pretty big hit for Juventus, however, it would not keep them from winning the Derby d’Italia. Because of the three points, the Bianconeri continue the race for European football. The gap to Atalanta: four points.
